Medals

Reference:5733 Engraved Silver Plates, c. 1730

A most interesting pair of engraved silver tickets or passes, one with a key, the other with crossed quills, and both carrying the legend EXISTIMATIONI TUAE CONSULE.

Silver. 55 mm.

Condition: Very Fine

Notes:

It is not clear for whom these were made, but the symbolism of the key and crossed quills suggest an office of chancellory or such like.

They are superbly engraved on thin silver flans, and while the suggested chronology is stylistically at the latter end of the period in which they might have been made, there is every possibility that they date to the first quarter of the eighteenth century.

They represent a fascinating research project.
