Draped bust of Newton, right, his hair long. The standing female figures of Pallas and Prudence, embracing; at their feet are musical instruments and the shield of Newton. Beyond, a stag, and in the distance, cities. By M. Sodani-Benzi. Copper, cast, 88 mm. (3.35 inches).

Condition: Nearly extremely fine.

Notes: Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi (1658-1740) was a medallist working in Florence, who produced a series of cast portrait medals, a small number of which relate to Britain. Sir Henry Newton (1651-1715) was ambassador for Queen Anne to the Genoese Republic, and, subsequently, to the Grand Duke of Tuscany.
