Issued by the British Art Medal Society in 1996 in an edition of 59.

Michael Ayrton (1921-75), painter, sculptor, writer and broadcaster; the obverse is based on a self-portrait executed in 1961, and the reverse on an archetype of a mythologiccal creature, half-man and half-bull. This vision much occupied Ayrton, and the design is taken from one of his etchings.
