Medals
Reference:5923 Morro Castle, Havana, Besieged and Captured by Admiral Pocock and George Keppel, 3rd Earl of Albemarle, 1763
Conjoined busts of Commander Velasco and Vincntio Gonzales, to right.
The assault on Morro Castle, seen from the harbour, including the dramatic explosion of its magazine.
By D.T.F. Prieto.
Bronze. 48 mm.
Condition: Extremely Fine
Notes:
The medal was struck by the Spanish Academy of Arts in honour of the many men who lost their lives in this international incident, including Commander Velasco and Vincentio Gonzales.
A most pleasing and attractive medal with much fine detail present; the engraving of the die, which displays a minor flaw on the obverse, was self-evidentally a considerable undertaking.
