Reference:4019 The Muse and the Mother, 1990

By Marian Fountain. Bronze, cast. 112 x 93 mm. (4.48 x 3.72 inches).

Condition: Extremely fine.

Notes:

This was issued by the British Art Medal Society in a declared edition of 42. Marian Fountain (b.1960), studied sculpture and design at the University of Auckland. In 1990 she was awarded the prix de sculpture by the French Mint in a competition for the nude form in Britain. In describing this medal, the artist refers to the gold cord as being 'the life-cord of a woman: that personal force which constitutes her individuality . . . The Muse is skipping and is open to the outside world'.
