Medals

Reference:5401 William Duke of Cumberland, Funeral and Mourning Medal, 1765

An armoured and draped bust of William, Duke of Cumberland, to right. /

A tomb flanked by Cupid, as Hercules, and a mournful figure of Britannia.

By J. V. Nost.

Bronze. 38 mm.

Condition: Good Very Fine

Notes:

A small neat hole at 12 o'clock facilitates the suspension of the medal from a cord, during a period of mourning, and national grief, following the death of the Duke of Cumberland; this is the only example of the medal to have been so noted.
