Reference:6828 Giles Strangways - Tower of London, 1648

Bust of Strangways to right / White Tower, Tower of London

By John Roettiers.

Silver. 61 mm.

Condition: Extremely Fine

Notes:

Giles Strangways (1615-1675) Commander in the King's Army, was persecuted and imprisoned by Parliament. After the Restoration, he became Member of Parliament for Dorset.

It is believed that Charles II had this medal struck in honour of the help provided to the king's father, Charles I, by Strangways, a single known specimen in gold, now in a priovate collection, having been presented to him in recognition of that allegiance.
