Reference:4525 Baron Philip Stosch aged 26: Antiquary and Collector, 1717

Bust of Philip Stosch almost facing, his head to left, contraposto, his left shoulder lightly draped. Two-line inscription: MORIBVS ANTIQVIS. By Giovanni Pozzo. Bronze, cast. 70 mm. (2.8 inches) in diameter.

Condition: Good very fine and a particularly nice example of this scarce medal.

Notes: Baron Philip Stosch (1691-1757) was a German archaeologist who lived in Italy. He was man of varied interests, and is the founder of the architectural collection in the Albertina Austria, which owns approximately 2,000 Italian architectural drawings from the 16th, 17th and early 18th centuries. Stosch also helped to found a masonic lodge in Florence, which was opened in 1733. See also # 2019, under the year 1727.
