Reference:3938 Equestrian model of Frederick the Great of Prussia, c. 1790
Equestrian figure of Frederick the Great, one hand holding the reins, the other a staff; mounted on a narrow wooden base. Lead, 125 (high) x 100 (wide) (5 x 4 inches); overall measurements including base, 168 x 30 x 150 mm. (6.7 x 1.2 x 6 inches).
Condition: Excellent.
Notes: The death of Frederick the Great (1712-86) occasioned souvenirs and commemoratives of various kinds, and occurred in a period which saw a growing fashion for silhouettes. The thin plate of lead from which this figure has been cut out is thus very much in keeping with current trends, and it is remarkable for the superb condition in which it survives.
